International Islamic University Malaysia, in cooperation with Association of Arab Universities, organized the 3rd International Arab-Asian Conference on "Reformulating Higher Education", with participation of delegations from different countries, numbering 69 persons, varying from presidents to directors, who represented their universities from Arab countries and Southeast Asian countries. The conference mainly discussed challenges facing higher education and ways of improving quality in this field, as well as developing tools and mechanisms for measuring universities performance and enhancing their quality through an Arab and Asian rather than Western perspective. This is in addition to attempting to establish an integrated model for performance, management and leadership of universities through a perspective that takes into account economic, social and cultural dimensions. The conference also navigated the measurement of integrated performance of universities and the enhancement of total quality by presenting successful models and future strategies, in addition to investigating emerging issues in higher education sector. In its third session, the conference aimed to promote cooperation between Arab and Asian universities and benefit from expertise and experience in this aspect. Dr. Kamalin Shaath, representing the Gaza Strip, participated in the conference in his capacity as the former president of Islamic University of Gaza.​
