The Social Responsibility of Higher Education Institutions Toward Public Education in Emergencies

Case Study: The Hope Educational Tent Project – Gaza Strip

This paper explores how the Islamic University of Gaza responded to the educational crisis caused by the war by launching the “Hope Educational Tent” project. Targeting displaced children in grades 1–4, the initiative provided emergency curriculum, psychosocial support, healthcare, and basic services, benefiting over 800 students. Despite its positive impact, it addressed only 0.3% of the actual educational need, highlighting a gap of over 157,000 students. The study identifies limited funding, absence of specialized emergency education  programs, and weak coordination with humanitarian bodies as key challenges. It calls for academic reforms, donor partnerships, and scalable models to bridge educational gaps during prolonged emergencies.
